Tolvskillingshjälpen a brief description in english

The idea with Tolvskillingshjälpen is to collect money in an easy way from employees and companies they work in. The money will be used for children’s need of education and development all over the world.

Our organization was established in 1960 at the old company Scania Vabis in Södertälje, Sweden.
One of the employees sat at home in his sofa watching TV. It was a news program about Africa’s poor people and the child refugees from Sudan. He decided that he had to do something. “We have to do it in an organized way”, he said. He contacted the company-management if they were interested to co-operate with the employees to start a comity that collects money for children’s need of food, clothes and so on.The answer from the company-management was yes, and the comity Tolvskillingshjälpen was established. That was in the early sixties…

Today, People working in 8 different companies make a contribution every month to our organization. There are about 7000 people contributing to us. The salary offices deduct the contributed amount from the employees account and forward it to Tolvskillingshjälpen. The companies elect a 9-member border that rules the activities. The border meets five times a year.

Proposals of aid project are coming from people around the contributing companies even from people outside our companies, who have learned about us from the web or else were.

It’s important that we use a well known organization, or for us a known person with god references were the support should be used locally. Until today Tolvskillingshjälpen has supported many different education and development programs in many countries over the world.

Today we have projects in: Argentina, Brazil, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The purpose of all projects we support is that they lead to an education and a development for the kid who is in it.

Today our biggest project is in Lithuania. A vocational school in a small town called Druskininkai. It’s a training unit for trucks and bus mechanics. It started in year 2000. Today there are 70 students in 3 classes. They will study in 3 year before examination.
